Privacy Policy
rootlet helps two people pick a baby name together. It works fully without an account, and it has no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing sold or shared for advertising. This policy explains the little data it does handle and why.
What we collect
- An anonymous identifier. When you use partner features, the app signs in anonymously and is given a random Firebase user id. It is not your name, email, or phone number.
- Your name choices. If you connect with a partner, the names you swipe — both liked and passed, with timestamps — are stored so the two of you can be matched. If you never connect a partner, your swipes stay only on your device.
- A recovery email and password — only if you set them. If you use “Back up this account,” your email address and a password are stored so you can sign back in after reinstalling or switching phones. This is optional.
- Sibling Match details — only if you use that feature. If the AI “Sibling Match” feature is available and you use it, the first names of your existing children, any notes you type, and your liked names are sent to generate suggestions (see “Third parties”).
How we use it
- To run the app: show names, sync your likes with your partner, and celebrate matches.
- To let you recover your data after a reinstall, if you set up a recovery login.
- To generate name suggestions, if you use Sibling Match.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or tracking across apps or websites, and we do not sell it.
Third parties
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores your anonymous id, your swipes, and your recovery email/password. Google processes this data under its own terms; see Firebase’s privacy information.
- Anthropic — only if you use Sibling Match. The children’s names, notes, and liked names described above are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to produce suggestions, and are not used to train its models. The app asks for your explicit permission before the first request.
We require these providers to protect your data to a standard equivalent to this policy.
Where it’s stored and for how long
Data on your device is kept in the app’s local storage. Cloud data is held in Google Firestore. We keep it until you delete it (see below) or it is no longer needed to provide the app.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Use it with no account. The whole app works offline with no cloud data at all.
- Disconnect a device at any time from Profile → Connect partner.
- Delete your account and data. In the app, open Profile → Delete account to permanently remove your account, your recovery email, and your swipes. (This removes your swipes; a connected partner keeps their own, and simply stops seeing your likes.) You can also email us at the address below.
Children
rootlet is intended for expecting parents and adults, not for children, and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Names you enter about your own children are provided by you, the adult user.

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
